Learning about industrialisation in the machinery sector: Innovating in The Motor Valley through maximum customisation

Can we learn from industrialization in the automotive sector? Is it about learning by integrating practical skills, advanced engineering and close collaboration between universities and companies? Can we follow the Motor Valley model in Emilia-Romagna as an example for the transformation of the AECO sector? The training model and the school-business integration ecosystem generate programs that combine academic theory with practical experience in the plants of legendary car and motorcycle manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Ducati. Meanwhile, within specialized higher education, the University of the Motor Valley of Emilia-Romagna (MUNER) offers master’s degrees in cutting-edge areas such as racing car design, electric vehicles, and self-driving vehicles. And this is combined with the Higher Level Technological Institutes (ITS), where, for example, the ITS Maker Academy trains specialized technicians with two-year courses and internships in companies focused on industrial innovation, mechatronics and sustainability. Could we replicate this system to advance the construction sector in Italy?
