Urban regeneration: strategies, tools and prospects

The session aims to provide participants with the cognitive and operational tools for the theoretical and empirical exploration of the paradigm of urban regeneration, which has long been considered a key reference point in the scientific debate and in the operational practice of urban planning, given the transversal dynamics and related problems that characterize contemporary urban and territorial realities. From a theoretical perspective, its potentials and limitations will be highlighted, focusing on its interpretation in the framework of land use regulation and governance, through the analysis of case studies and significant planning experiences at national and international level. We will build a conscious cognitive framework that will allow us to calibrate a set of theoretical and methodological references that, from an operational perspective, will prepare the analysis of fragility and values from a spatial, functional and formal point of view. This will serve as a basis for identifying alternative strategies and scenarios, with a view to a responsible planning process for contemporary Italian cities and urban territories.
